“Brazilian wines and cachaças have shown a significant and important evolution in recent years. The 2024 edition of Brasil Selection by CMB, in addition to proving and rewarding the best products, guarantees international projection, in Europe, the Americas and also in Asia, Oceania and Africa, regions in which the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles has great penetration and respect“, highlights Eduardo Viotti, journalist, director of Brasil Selection by CMB 2024.
Artificial Intelligence to conceptualize and unify the opinions of the jurors
For the first time in a wine contest in Brazil, Artificial Intelligence was used to compile all the judges’ notes and opinions on each sample, produce a single comment and issue a graphic called “aroma wheel”, highlighting the characteristics and virtues of each product. This “aroma wheel” indicates all types of aromas found in the drink (aromatic and taste description).
The system developed by CMB is able to absorb all the information and comments of the judges in the different languages, analyze and emit this graph or “aroma wheel”, with all the characteristics present in the drink. This comment can be very useful for the producer to improve his product and compare it with that of other regions. For the consumer, it helps in the purchase process, who can choose what most pleases their palate.
The award ceremony and delivery of the Grand Gold, Gold and Silver Medals will take place in December, in São Paulo.
Brasil Selection by CMB, the Brazilian branch of the powerful Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, took place in October and now presents the national products awarded by the international jury. There were about 450 products registered, among which a maximum of 30% of winners with Silver Medals, Gold Medals and Grand Gold Medals stood out, according to the score obtained.
According to Viotti, the results are somewhat revealing, as there is a concentration of awards in wines from the Southeast region, São Paulo and Minas Gerais, and spirits, especially cachaça, from the South Region of the country.
“This shows a diversification in the production of high-quality beverages in the country, with the emergence of new centers of excellence throughout Brazil,” believes Viotti. For him, winning important quality referendums such as those offered by the Belgian competition, the largest itinerant beverage competition in the world, is a decisive factor for the conquest of international markets. “In many countries, traders, brokers or importers require that the beverage has a medal from a global recognition contest, such as the CMB, as a sine qua non condition for the completion of the business“.
The contest was attended by national and international jurors, from countries such as Canada, Belgium, France and Portugal. All of them have recognized capacity and extensive experience in competitive tastings. See the drinks, wines, and spirits, which earned Silver, Gold, and Grand Gold Medals.
